In Memory

Donna Hartis (Sharp)

Donna Kathryn Sharp was born to the late Murray Theron Hartis and Eleanor Frankie Hartis, of Monroe, NC on September 29, 1952. She loved school and was a straight A student. Donna often babysat her sister Marilyn and enjoyed taking walks to the movie theatre, where they would share popcorn and drinks. As a teenager she volunteered at her local hospital and as a young adult she was once voted Mrs. Charlotte Knight by the minor league baseball team in her hometown. When her eldest daughter was in middle school she volunteered as a youth group leader at her church. Donna loved making her own money, which led her to her first job at Wachovia Bank where she was promoted at the young age of 20.

She married her high school sweetheart, Ira Thomas “Tom” Chapman III, in 1970. They had three daughters, Melissa Lickert (David), Carey Laxton and Kristi Knight (Jeremy). She spent 33 years with Robert “Bob” Howell Sharp whom she married in 2005. They enjoyed traveling and exploring Maggie Valley together on their Harley. She loved spending time with her family and always cherished their vacations together at Folly Beach. They have two dogs, Max and Lucy, and a cat, Ralphie, whom they adore. Donna was a true nurturer. She was kind and generous and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how big or small.

Donna passed away on May 6, 2021 in Sumter, SC. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones. She is survived by her husband, daughters and her six grandchildren - Evan, Emma, Will, Katy, Isla and Jack. She is also survived by her two sisters, Marilyn Kisiah and Diane Kindley, and her two brothers Timothy Hartis and David Miller and her four step daughters Cindy Scheele, Rea Maynard, Alison Watford, Bobbie Owens and their extended families. I am sorry to hear about the passing of Donna Hartis.  She was a friend and neighbor of mine when I lived in Charlotte. She lived just two houses down from me and rode the same bus to school so I saw her almost everyday. I remember her as being friendly and kind to me when we were in school. She was also very smart and popular in school. When I first met her I thought she was one of the prettiest girls I had ever seen. I haven't seen her since I graduated from East but I will always remeber her. Rest in Peace Donna
